Using Adwords? Beware of this Google scam…
WARNING
Smart Adwords Inserts “Keywords” To Maximize Clicks For THEM, Not You
Google, under the guise of “smart technology” will automatically add keywords to your Adwords campaign that maximizes click-through rates for them and not your business.
For example, say you’re a manufacturer selling a specialized product for your industry. You develop a Google Smart Adwords campaign that solely wants to attract customers who are searching for this particular product since it fulfills a certain market niche. You provide Google with finely tuned keywords precisely targeting consumers who are in the research stage of their buyer’s journey.
What Google now does under the pretense of assisting you with their “smart technology” is include “keywords” to maximize click-throughs by using their internal data to see which keywords generate the most click-throughs in general, regardless of what you’re trying to achieve with your targets. For instance, Google will add the name of the owner of the company to the list of keywords. Now if you’re selling an oil filter for a particular motorcycle, you certainly do not want to pay for a click through for someone searching for your CEO. But that’s exactly what Google wants…
Stay Vigilant
So what do you do? Stay vigilant. You can’t simply “set and forget” your Adwords campaign and hope that Google will do the right thing for your business. You must log in, at the minimum, once per week to edit Google’s smart technology and evaluate your advertisement’s performance.

Are Adwords Working For You?
Or Google?
Of course, we all know that Google is not in the business to sell ads out of the goodness of their heart (that “Don’t Be Evil” mantra went out years ago). But they should do their best not to take advantage of new customers who may simply trust Google to do the right thing.
Don’t Be Evil
Instead of automatically adding their own keywords, they should suggest the keywords to incorporate and have the customer make the decision to include them or not.
The takeaway is don’t trust Google to do what’s best for your business. Stay on top of your Adwords campaign and actively participate in its success.
